Terms of Service
Last updated: October 1, 2026
Archived. Prism has been discontinued. These terms were edited on October 1, 2026 to reflect that, and apply to anyone who still has the app installed. They will not be updated again.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using Prism ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the App.
2. Description of Service
Prism is a media discovery and management app for Apple platforms (iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV). It allows you to browse metadata about movies and TV shows, track your watch history and watchlist, connect to personal media servers, and discover where content is available to stream. Prism does not host, store, or distribute any media content.
3. No Account Required
Prism does not require you to create an account. There is no Prism login or user database. App data is stored locally on your device and optionally synced via Apple's iCloud, including — if you select iCloud as your Library Sync source — a private CloudKit database in your own iCloud account. Watch history, watchlist, and progress data may instead sync through one user-selected third-party service (Trakt, SIMKL, or MDBList).
4. Third-Party Services
Prism integrates with various third-party services that you may choose to connect. By using these integrations, you also agree to the respective terms and policies of those services:
- TMDB — for movie and TV metadata
- Trakt — optional Library Sync source for watch history, watchlist, and progress tracking
- SIMKL — optional Library Sync source for watch history, watchlist, and progress tracking
- MDBList — optional Library Sync source and provider of aggregated ratings from multiple sources
- RatingPosterDB — optional poster and ratings metadata enhancement (not affiliated)
- BetterPosters — optional poster enhancement (not affiliated)
- TVDB — for enhanced TV episode data
- AniList — for anime-specific metadata
- Apple Intelligence and Private Cloud Compute — for eligible built-in AI features on supported Apple devices
- Gemini, OpenAI, or Perplexity — optional user-configured providers for web-grounded AI features and fallbacks
- YouTube — for trailer playback
- Jellyfin / Emby / Plex — for personal media server streaming
- OpenSubtitles — for optional built-in subtitle search and downloads
Prism is not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or content provided by these third-party services. Your use of them is governed by their respective terms of service and privacy policies.
5. Content & Media
Prism is a tool for discovering and organizing media — it does not host, stream, or distribute copyrighted content. Any media playback occurs through your own media servers, streaming service apps, or WebDAV network shares that you configure. You are responsible for ensuring that your use of any content complies with applicable copyright laws and the terms of your streaming subscriptions.
6. User Responsibility for Media Connections
If you choose to connect personal media servers (Jellyfin, Emby, Plex, Silo) or network shares, you are solely responsible for the content accessed through those connections. The developer does not operate, endorse, or control your media servers or network shares. It is your responsibility to ensure that any content you access or stream through these integrations is content you own or have the legal right to view. The developer assumes no liability for how users configure or use these features.
7. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the App for any illegal purpose or in violation of any applicable laws
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App
- Redistribute, sublicense, or resell the App
- Use the App to infringe on the intellectual property rights of others
- Attempt to circumvent any security features of the App
8. The App Store
Prism was distributed through the Apple App Store and, for beta builds, Apple TestFlight. It is no longer available to download.
9. Apple's Role
The App Store, TestFlight, and iCloud are services operated by Apple Inc. Apple is not a party to these Terms, is not responsible for the App or its content, and has no obligation to provide any support or maintenance for it. Apple is, however, a third-party beneficiary of these Terms and may enforce them against you. Any claim relating to the App's failure to conform to a warranty is the developer's responsibility, not Apple's. "Apple", "App Store", "TestFlight", "iCloud", "Mac", "iPhone", "iPad", and "Apple TV" are trademarks of Apple Inc.; Prism is an independent app and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Apple.
10. Intellectual Property
Prism and its original content, features, and functionality are owned by the developer and are protected by applicable copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. Movie and TV show metadata, posters, and other media information are provided by TMDB and their respective owners. Studio and streaming-service logos displayed in the App are provided by TMDB and are trademarks of their respective owners; they are used solely to identify content, and their appearance does not imply any endorsement of or affiliation with Prism.
11. Disclaimer of Warranties
The App is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. The developer does not guarantee that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.
12. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the developer shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of the App.
13. Changes to These Terms
This is the final version of these terms. They were last edited on October 1, 2026, when Prism was discontinued, and will not change again.
